From vaccinations to visits, here’s what activities we’ve been up to

Despite the first few months of 2021 being difficult, we have been keeping very busy here with lots of activities at Portland Nursing Home.

Due to limitations at the beginning of the year, our care staff at Portland Nursing Home has continued to go above and beyond to ensure our home remained happy and healthy.

As a home that promotes a healthy lifestyle, we have been enjoying a number of activities and with the welcome of the Spring sunshine, we have been able to spend more time in our landscaped gardens with frequent visits with our loved ones.

Vaccinations

As one of the first in the Buxton region to have vaccinated all its staff and residents at COVID-19, we are thrilled to have reached such a significant milestone in our fight against the virus.

The first to have the vaccine was our care assistant, Helen, who is Portland’s longest member of staff of 35 years.

You can read all about our first round of vaccinations here and we hope to receive our second in the next month!

Arts and Crafts activities

One of our favourite activities that we have been up to is arts and crafts. Crafting is an activity that can be enjoyed by the young, the elderly, and everyone in between.

During our craft sessions, we have found artsy activities to be the perfect opportunity for socialising with others too – there is nothing better than discussing your art or taking inspiration!

Getting outside

As the days are becoming longer and the temperate getting warmer, we have been able to spend lots of time outside drinking our favourite beverages. Recently, we honoured Her Majesty the Queen’s 95th birthday and celebrated National Tea Day by drinking lots of tea.

Celebrations

With a community of 40 residents, we have been busy celebrating lots of birthdays meaning we have also been eating lots of cake.  Celebrating residents’ birthdays always brings a smile to everyone’s faces here at Portland Nursing Home.

Visitations

As government restrictions ease, our visitations at our home have gone up. Following our recent vaccinations, here at Portland, we have been able to reopen our doors to allow our residents and their loved ones to reunite.

With restrictions now allowing two named visitors to make repeated visits to our home, head to our other blog here to learn about visiting guidance and how to arrange your visit.

We have loved being able to welcome loved ones back into our home and we can’t wait to see more of you soon!

From all of us at Portland Nursing Home, we wanted to thank you all so much for your patience and understanding in these challenging times.

Portland is still welcoming new residents and has clear policies and procedures in place to be able to do this safely.
